EMG stands for elctromyography. (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve's stimulation of the muscle. During the test there are small needles (also called electrodes) are inserted through the skin and into the muscle. Although, this has been the gold standard to rule nerve damage. I often see that this test aggravates the nerves in question. Making it a painful test.
